Good Friends and Time

This past week my dear sweet friend Yvonne and some of her family were in town. Her husband Tom was involved in seminars for work. Yvonne, Joe, Cameron and I spent some time together on Thursday. We met up at Ikea, wandered the store, did a little shopping, and enjoyed sweedish meatballs. Cameron and I drove to the hotel where Yvonne's family was staying for the week and the boys swam. The boys had a blast playing with water balls, dive sticks, and dive rings. Yvonne and I had a great time dangling our feet in the pool and just talking. Kiarra listened to her ipod outside in the sun, she didn't want to socialize with us...lol. Too bad my girls were away to girls camp, they would have had a blast hanging out together.

Friday night we had Joe and Kiarra over for pizza and fun with Cameron. Their family had a nice little sleep over at our house and left early Saturday morning for the drive back home (Colorado).

It was great to see you and spend some time Yvonne. We should have took some pics of us. Ha ha oh well. I will post the few pics I took of the kids.

Here's to starting over...sort of

I am not really going to start over, but from here on out will be the start of blogging again. Our computer crashed a couple of weeks ago and in order to have it back Todd had to re-install everything. We lost all our memories from 2010 to just about present. I was faithful at making back up cd's, but hadn't since about March 2010. It is sad to think a year of pictures are gone (except those) that were already uploaded into facebook, but it will be ok. The kids change in a year, but maybe not too much...lol

My previous post about Youth Conference 2009 was a draft I had started a couple of months ago, and was working on uploading pictures just before the computer crashed. Hopefully many of you saw some of them on facebook in mine and kierstie's album.

2010 was a fun year for our family. School activities, concerts, plays, and cameron trying a couple of new sports. I traveled to New York for work twice during fall of 2010 and was very excited that Todd went with me on one of the trips.

This year 2011 has been just as fun, with some events we are happy to put behind us. I will try and post with pics if I have some saved from my cell phone.

I am happy to be back to blogging and hope you enjoy sharing in my journal!!

Youth Conference July 2009

With the realization that I have neglected my blog for so long I have denied myself, family, and friends the recording of what we have been up to. One of these events was Youth Conference in July 2009. Normally Todd and I would not be at Youth Conference with any of our children. July 2009 was different, we had the opportunity to attend because the youth did a Trek. Todd and I went as Aunt and Uncle for one of the organized families "The Bauer Family".

Trek was an awesome experience. Kierstie was the only one of our children able to attend and was assigned to another family. Cozy wanted to go but was not yet fourteen. It was neat to watch Kierstie associate with others from the stake while on Trek which is different than Girls Camp.

The spirit felt while attending Trek was amazing. When we first began our walk we quickly started assending up hills and I thought to myself "what have I gotten myself into" and began to doubt if I would be able to enjoy the experience. I have been out of shape and discouraged with physical activity. I used to climb mountains all the time and have come to realize I am not physically fit for mountain climbing anymore and take it very slow and easy when hiking or other things of the same nature. This was no different, but I could tell very early on that this experience was not going to be easy.

The hardest part of the trek was the womens pull. All the men were called off to war. The women were left to push and pull the carts alone. We later learned that the men could see us the entire time (unlike our ancestors) and wanted so bad to come back down the mountain and assist us.
I didn't make it like I had hoped. I had an asthma attack during the pull up the mountain and had to sit on a rock for awhile. I was crying which isn't easy to do when you can't even breathe. To top it off, I do not, or I should say have never been diagnosed with asthma but the medical staff and guide with us told me this is what was happening to me. After about fifteen minutes or so when I had my breath back and went and helped another handcart finish to the top thus finishing the womens pull. It felt so good to finish and to have the greater testimony that our ancestors had many months traveling over the plains to Utah.

I will be forever greatful of this experience and glad I could share it with Todd, the youth from the stake, and the family we were assigned "Bauer Family".

Park City 6/25/10

The last week of June 2010, our two oldest daughters went with the ward to Youth Conference. A river rafting trip. In their absence I took the rest of our family up to Park City. It was a great day to be in the mountains. Jetblue was having a party for our 10th year celebration. We had a blast on the Alpine Slide. Kindof wished we had done that a few more times instead of waiting in line for the Coaster. The Coaster was fun, but waiting over two hours was not fun.

Wow!!! I am way behind on posting again. So much has happened in our lives over the past year. I really would like this blog to continue being our family record of events. It is a nice way to share photos and information with family and friends. I will try to catch up quickly and stay more on top of this blog.

My NY Trip June 28-June 30

The last time I went to NY was in the winter time so I was very excited this year that my business trip to NY was during the summer time. It was definately a different experience seeing NY and not having to be bundled up warm in a coat.

During my last visit I was able to see alot of NY. It was my first time and I am very grateful that those I traveled with were willing to show me all around NY. This was my second time to NY and this time we didn't walk all around as much as last time (even though I would have loved to have seen more). We did venture through upper manhattan and that area was new for me. We walked through central park. I thought I took more than two pictures, but now that I am going through my NY pics, I found that I didn't. One is the green trees and grass area in central park and the other just outside of central park a Russian Cathedrial.

We did have a different experience on canal street. One that I don't want to have a repeat of ever. It was a little on the scary side as we were locked into a van while being shown purses. I am not a big shopper, but was along for the fun of bargain shopping on canal street. I did find some bargains on suveniers that I brought home to my kids and hubby.

We spent some time wandering around inside the Toys R Us building. The toys seem to be bigger than life there. Well see for yourself.

We even ended up by the wax museum and Ripley's believe it or not.

I hope to one day take my hubby and family to NY. It really is a fun city to visit.

2009 Scout Derby

Cameron earned some bead and I believe an arrow point for 10 more electives in the bear book. The boys when they earn awards pick what type of applause they would like and Cameron chose watermelon. Here is a picture of his award ceremony and the watermelon applause.

This pack meeting was the pine wood derby. Cameron again enjoyed making a car with his dad. The pictures are not as good as those taken last year, but they will have to do.

Paddle Festival

I have a good friend that keeps us informed of events within the Salt Lake area that are free or of little expense. Alot of these events turn out to be great adventures for our family.

We were fortunate to hear about the Paddle Festival. Our children have been in boats, tubes, and other water crafts. However they have never been in a raft or paddle boats.

Todd, myself, and the kids had so much fun. This event was held in the new daybreak community area. I just love the houses out there, not to mention the idea of a water parkway for the community.

Disney May 2009

Disneyland this year has been allowing guests to come to their parks free this year on their birthday. Originally we thought it would be fun for me, Cozette, and Kaylynn to fly out just for their birthdays, but then Cameron celebrates his birthday in May so we decided to make it a famiy vacation. Cozette celebrated her birthday in the park (free day) as well as Kaylynn the very next day.

We missed our flight coming home and had to make a day in the Long Beach Airport. I don't recommend missing flights. Ha ha, we had fun playing together as a family though. If this ever happens again, I plan on having the rental car company hold onto our rental just in case. Especially because we travel as standby.

David Archuleta

Todd works for Cyprus Credit Union in their IT department. He loves his job and enjoys creating programs and other things that he went to school for. Every now and then he is able to see special people. He told our children that David Archuleta would be at his bank. Kierstie and Cameron were sick so he took Cozette and Kaylynn. Cozette and Kaylynn were very excited to see and be up close with David. He signed some pictures for them and even let them take some photos with him.

2008-2009 School Year End Concert

Kierstie and Cozette were very excited to wear formal dresses for some of their year end concerts for the 2008-2009 school year. The theme for the concert is "The movies".

Kierstie wasn't sure about eye of the tiger, but had fun coming up with an 80's outfit. Too bad I didn't hold on to items from the 80's. Ha ha! She also had fun singing a song from the pink panther.

Cozette's favorite song during the concert was from the Lion King and the masks they were able to wear to make the song more fun.

This was the final concert for Kierstie's 9th grade year. Bitter sweet because she won't be in choir in 10th grade.

Red Butte Gardens-Arbor Day May 2009

We had alot of fun attending Arbor Day. We have never been before and I took the suggestion to attend from a good friend so we went to Red Butte Gardens. The gardens are beautiful and it was neat to see the different plants showcased.

This year during Arbor Day the mayor of Salt Lake planted a tree and the kids were able to assist him with the dirt.

The kids also had lots of fun rolling down the hill. They all got dizzy and have now decided they are getting to big to keep rolling down hills.

We love to color eggs for easter...we especially love eating hard boiled eggs. I think quite often I forget to have the camera in the same room as egg dying.

Egg Hunts

We didn't have very good luck this year with easter egg hunts. Every one of them we tried to get to on time...just didn't work out for our family. We did have fun however at a easter festival at Wheeler Farm. It is always fun to go see the new baby animals.

Cameron and Kaylynn are still small enough to go into some of the small areas at the farm. Not much longer though and they will be all grown up. Oh why oh why can't my kids stay little!!!!

The kids love to just run and for Kaylynn flip around the grass areas on the farm. There were also some booths where the kids could make or do different crafts. Inflatables and popsicles always a yummy treat (even though it was a cool day).

Day of Pampering with Friends

I love to host parties for different things like Mary Kay, Lia Sophia, Scentsy, etc. As most of your are aware, because you are always invited to my house to attend. This particular party was a pampering party with Mary Kay. Mothers and Daughter and it was alot of fun soaking our feet and mositurizing our face and hands.

Scout Blue and Gold Banquet March 2009

During one of our scout pack meetings the Blue and Gold Banquet was held. As families we enjoyed a hot dog dinner, with salads and desserts. Cameron received more silver points for things he has completed in his wolf book. He is ready and excited for bear. His birthday is May 5 and he will begin the bear program then. Sorry the pictures aren't the best. The fuzzy one is everyone doing the watermelon, which is one of many ways to applaud when one receives and award and the applause Cameron chose.

Growing up way too fast...

Kierstie is growing up to fast. She would like to have a summer job. She would like to keep saving money and gain experience. Kierstie applied for a job with the Rec Center near our home. She had an interview a couple of weeks ago and is now just anxiously waiting the call to offer her the job (or tell her they chose others).

I was telling Todd I think it is time to lock her away in a tower, with a dragon. He added with a moat full of allegators.

Where is the time going? I can't believe she is 15. We love you Kierstie, but will you please stop growing up!?!

The Logsplitters

Todd is part of a basketball league with guys from work. He has had alot of fun playing. I am usually sleeping when he goes to his games (because I work during the grave hours), but the kids went a week or so ago and took some picture of their dad.

I am so proud of all our children. They totally love school and it shows in their report cards. Kaylynn and Cameron both achieve honor roll.

Kaylynn and Cameron received straight A's. Cozy 5 A's and 2 B's 3.7 GPA, and Kierstie received a 3.6 GPA.

Kierstie came home from school two weeks ago and said mom I think Kaylynn should be a Jr Vike for our Spirit Week assembly. There is a small cost with three days of learning from cheerleaders for Kaylynn. I said ok because Kaylynn was excited and wanted to do this. The practice was last Wednesday through Friday. The teacher involved told Kierstie to go ahead and learn the cheers and dances as well with Kaylynn. Wednesday this week was the assembly. Here are the videos that were showcasing Kierstie and Kaylynn.

Kaylynn's Scary Experience

Sorry we haven't posted for a little while. It is amazing just how quickly the time flies. Looking at the date on the calendar today we are now at just about the middle of February.

I would like to thank our families for being there for us! Monday January 26 was a crazy day for our family. Especially for Kaylynn. Emotionally and physically draining.

Kaylynn the prior Thursday wasn't feeling well. She was sick, which for me was surprising because our family has had the flu shot. Over that weekend she was fine so I assumed it was just a twenty four hour bug.

Monday was a different story. I begin my workday very early (four am) so I wasn't home when Kaylynn first began complaining about how she was feeling. She told her dad that she felt her tummy cramping and was uncomfortable. Todd asked if she wanted to stay home from school. Her reply was no---our children don't like to miss school at all! She went and at about nine that morning the school called and asked me to come pick up Kaylynn because she had been vomiting and not feeling well. About ten minutes later Kaylynn came to me bent over and barely able to walk, complaining of her right side hurting really bad. I immediately thought appendicitis. I loaded her up into the car and drove over to the insta care. After signing in the thought came to mind, if this is appendicitis the insta care will be unable to help because they don't have ultrasound. I told the ladies at the desk my thoughts about Kaylynn and to never mind checking me in. We left and headed to Primary Children's. She was checked in about 10:00am and after about half hour of waiting admitted into a room. They had Kaylynn rate her pain 0-10 with 10 being the worst pain in her life, which she told the nurse was a 10. The nurse and doctor both decided morphine was neccessary and began looking for a vein they could start IV and morphine in. Kaylynn was dehydrated so it took the nurse about 15 minutes to get the needle into her hand. The morphine wasn't helping so they gave her another dose and she finally fell asleep. Every few minutes Kaylynn would writh in pain. It was so hard to sit by her watching the pain in her face (especially her eyes). I knew she was in alot of pain and I wished I could have taken her place.

Heavenly Father gives each of us trials for our faith to grow. I know this was not only a test for me, to watch my daughter suffer, but also for Kaylynn in learning how to cope with what was happening to her at that moment in time.

I kept Todd updated on Kaylynn's progress and we decided it was time he come to the hospital to be with us. The hospital couldn't do an ultrasound till she had a full bladder. Once she finished a full bag of IV fluid, they asked Kaylynn to keep them posted of when she needed to use the restroom (of course discouraging the use of the restroom). The nurse also couldn't decide if she should start another bag and said lets just wait and see.

Kaylynn finally felt the pressure and urge within her bladder so I notified the nurse. They took all of us to the ultrasound room. Todd and I both tried to comfort Kaylynn, she was in alot of pain and the pressure was only adding to the pain. The technician kept looking at her ovaries and then called a radiologist doctor into the room to ask if she should look at the appendix or just stay with the pictures they had. Todd and I kept looking at each other trying to figure out what was on the screen. The doctor said yes and then said, ok, take her back to her room I will notify her attending doctor.

It was only a couple minutes later when back in our room that the doctor came in. Kaylynn had a right ovary torsion. Her right ovary had turned on itself 360 + 180 degrees and the blood supply to the ovary was cut off. Kaylynn would need emergency surgery to untwist the ovary and restore blood flow. They were hoping the ovary would not be dead or damaged.

First thought was why? How? What about her fertility future? Would my little daughter when grown up be able to still have children, and would it have to be with a chance using only one ovary? So many thoughts and emotions.

I called my mom to keep her posted. She asked if I would like dad to come and be with us and to assist Todd in giving Kaylynn a blessing. Of course! I am very blessed and comforted to know Todd and my Father are both worthy and willing to provide blessings.

Dad and Todd gave Kaylynn a blessing and not long after that she was feeling alot better. I think the morphine was finally helping her. We continued to watch movies in the room and wait for an operating room to open up. Kaylynn went into surgery at 5:45pm. I paced the floors. My mom came up, so I went for a walk to bring her up to the waiting area. The doctor came in about 45 minutes later and told us the surgery went well. He was able to untwist the ovary, restore blood flow, and her ovary returned to a nice pink color. He was very confident they saved her ovary.

Dad and Mom, thanks for being there with Todd and I. We love and appreciate you! Kaylynn says thank-you for the nice cuddly heart shape pillow. Kaylynn sleeps with it every night now.

Kaylynn was a trooper and woke up from surgery eager to see us. She did really well and kept her over night. I stayed with her. Her sisters and brother missed her very much.

Kaylynn had her ultrasound and checkup at Primary Children's yesterday. The technician said Kaylynn looked so much better than the last time she saw her. We then saw the doctor and was told her ovary looked great and that her incision sites were healing nicely. Kaylynn was even more excited to be released to enjoy recess again. She missed a week of school and about three weeks of recess.

My Love

On February 8 Todd and I celebrated our eighteenth year anniversary. On Friday evening February 6 we went to GoodWood BBQ for dinner. It was yummy.

Part of me can't believe it has been eighteen years, however I would never trade any of them. Todd and I since day one have never been able to say good-bye. Instead we say see you to each other, because no matter what we will always be together and will see each other soon. In fact you might notice when we talk to you in person or on the phone we say the same thing at the end of the conversation. We also have another little saying. "I love you", "I love you more", "I love you the most", "I love you always and forever".

I met Todd at a country dance hall, known as the Palladium (which is no longer in Sugar House - movie theatre is in its place). He was sooo sweet and we became instant friends. After a few weeks, I gave him my phone number (because he would never ask me for it). Our first date was on February 8, 1990 and a year later we were married on that wonderful date in the Salt Lake Temple.

Todd is such an amazing husband and I couldn't ask for a better father for our children.

During our eighteen years together we have almost always worked together at a common employment, but within different departments. Todd and I both still work outside the home. I miss working with him, however we have both grown within our own working environments. Todd has his associates degree in computer science. He has obtained needed certifications within programing. I know he would like to go back to school and obtain his bachelors, hopefully soon we can work on making that happen for him.

Todd and I have both held many wonderful callings within the LDS church. Most recently within our Taylorsville 39th Ward, Todd is the Elders Quorum President adn YM Basketball Coach. I am Primary 1st Councelor, YW Camp Director, and acting Activity Day Leader.

We enjoy doing things together as a family. Camping, fishing, and playing games. Todd is a great dad to our four children and loves to tease them. He enjoys shooting hoops with each of them, even if just a friendly game of horse or I guess it is numbers they have drawn around the parameter on the driveway. He supports them in all they do. He enjoys speaking with our children about their day around the dinner table.

I am very greatful that Todd is a worthy priesthood holder and presides in our home. I, as well as our children, have been able to ask him for blessings of comfort, sickness, and many other type of father blessings.

I love you sweetheart! Thank you for being who you are, for being my rock, and for accepting and being forgiving of my faults. I look forward to many more wonderful anniversaries and eternity with you.

Kierstie and Cozy First Basketball Game

Kierstie and Cozette both enjoy playing sports with the Young Women of Taylorsville 39th Ward.

Todd went over and took some pictures. Cozy was sad she was unable to play the first game. She has been hurting and her doctor advised not to play for a couple of weeks. Instead Cozette cheered on Kierstie and the rest of the girls.

YW Recognition

Since we moved into our home and began attending our ward, I have noticed Kierstie looking at the plaque in the YW bulletin cabinet. One of the names on the plaque is Kierstie's cousin Jamie.

This year late fall, around either September or October, Kierstie decided she wanted to be on the plaque and receive her YW medallion and recognition. She set her goal to complete this before year end. As I mentioned in an early post she achieve this goal in record time, completing the rest of her value and projects before her birthday.

Young Women new beginning was held January 8, 2009. On this night she was recognized and received her medallion. Todd and I made a small tribute highlighting events in Kierstie's life thus far. We enjoyed showing these picture of Kierstie as her ward has not seen Kierstie grow up over the years. Kierstie is also very excited that her name is next to her cousin Jamie's.

Kierstie we are very proud of your accomplishments and for the young woman you have become. Continue to turn to our Heavenly Father in prayer and in the decisions you will continue to make in your life. You are beautiful and very special! This is quite an accomplishment. Dad and I love you very much!

Christmas was very nice. Our family traditionally on Christmas Eve talks about the Savior and his birth and after the kids open one present, which is always new pajamas. The kids love receiving the new pajama's and it is fun each year to see the new pajamas in the pictures we take on Christmas morning.

As usual the kids didn't sleep in. Too excited, they were up at three but didn't wake Todd and I up until about six.

The kids received a new bedspread from Santa. They were very excited!

After we opened presents we got dressed and this year went out in the snowy blizzard for the Martin family annual Christmas breakfast. This year it was held at DeLene's house. Thanks for breakfast! The roads were very snowy and slick, but it was nice to head out and see family.

We then headed up to my parents house and exchanged gifts and played some games. In the later afternoon we went to visit with Todd's parents. We enjoyed lots of finger foods and visiting with them and those that came to visit while we were there.

Who doesn't like a gingerbread house?

The Martin's love gingerbread houses. It is so fun to decorate them. Our neighbors gave us a kit and so for one family home evening in December we decorated the house.

The kids also enjoyed the rest of the holiday season eating the candies off the house.

In an earlier post I mentioned we had a very musical month in December. In the mix of all the pictures I didn't post about the two youngest children's concerts. Kaylynn and Cameron had their annual sing to the parents concert. Todd and I both were able to attend and enjoyed the concert very much. Kaylynn is in fourth grade and Cameron is in third.

Baich Christmas Party

Every year we get together for the baich family christmas party. My mom has one brother and it is alway fun to get together with them and celebrate the holidays. Everyone was in attendance and it is so fun to see everyone.

In years past we would eat, visit and play bingo. This year we enjoyed food, visiting, and instead of the traditional games we picked a number out of a bowl and did a present game where the presents could be changed three times before it was safe and couldn't be changed anymore.

Concerts and Recitals

The winter season is a time for our family to enjoy concerts and other opportunities for music. I love very much music and am grateful that my family enjoys music as well.

Todd and I went with my parents to the Conference Center on Saturday December 13 for "Ring Christmas Bells". Presented by Mormon Tabernacle Choir, Orchestra at Temple Square and Bells on Temple Square with special guests Brian Stokes Mitchell and Edward K Herrmann.

This concert was beautiful. We enjoyed hearing for the first time a very cute song that Brian Stokes Mitchell sang titled "The Friendly Beasts". It was also nice to hear him sing again "Through Heaven's Eyes", I didn't realize he was the man with the voice for that song in "The Prince of Egypt" (one of my favorite movies).

Our family enjoyed going to BJH for Kiersties concert. She is in her third year of concert choir and show choir. They sang many fun christmas and other holiday songs. My favorite is "Fruitcake".

Cozette is also at BJH and we enjoyed watching her play the violin with Cadet Orchestra. I am so happy that she enjoys playing the violin. She has beautiful and talented fingers for string instuments. One day she would like to pickup and learn both the acoustic and electric guitar. For now she is satisfied with playing rock band and guitar hero.
Here are highlights of her playing the violin during her concert.

Our four beautiful children have been taking piano lessons a little over a year now. Natalie (their piano teacher and work friend) decided to host a recital this year. The kids were very excited. They each picked out one song, with the exception of Kaylynn. She memorized her recital song in one week and wanted to learn and memorize another for the recital. It tickles me to watch each of my children enjoy music and especially playing the piano (like their mom). I was even excited that I was able to play a duet with Cameron and Cozette.

Thank you Grandma and Grandpa Johnson, as well as Sean, Jamie, and Family for coming to the recital and concerts.

Cameron played once "Jingle Bells" and then I played a duet of "Jingle Bells" with him.

Kierstie played "Hark the Herald Angels Sing".

Kaylynn played "Silent Night", then once "Let It Snow", then I joined her for a duet of "Let It Snow".

Cozette played "Blue Christmas" once and then I joined her for a duet of "Blue Christmas".

At the end of their recital, Natalie gave each of them a certificate of recognition and box of Mike n Ikes, each week for each song the kids pass off they choose Mike n Ikes out of a candy jar.

Deck the Halls

We have an artifical tree. One of our yearly traditions is to put up the tree Thanksgiving evening or Friday. This year was no different with the exception of being behind this year. Todd brought the tree into the house Thanksgiving evening. Our tree is pre-lite and so we started fixing up the branches making adjustments to each to help it look fuller and in preparation for decorating. Once plugged in we noticed that two different sets of lights were not working. So the kids and I started looking for what strand was not plugged in correctly.

After no success we decided a light must have burned out. But where? There were many strands and lights on this tree. Todd decided we better take the lights off the tree and begin looking for the burned out bulb. Talk about a long project. It took awhile but we found the burnt out bulb.

Now if I could just finish putting out Christmas. At least I am finished (for the most part) with Christmas...shopping that is!

Thanksgiving 2008

In the past like most families we have gone to two dinners. Usually earlier in the day Todd parent's and then later day or early evening we have gone to my parents home. Last year Sharon's house was the center of attention the day before Thanksgiving and then we enjoyed dinner at my parents house. A couple of years ago my mom tried having us all come for Thanksgiving breakfast. Our family enjoyed this because then we ate breakfast and only had one dinner later in the day.

This year my parents hosted Thanksgiving breakfast. We enjoyed sausage, egg, and cheese casserole, orange rolls, and pancakes. I enjoyed talking with and seeing all my siblings.

Dinner wasn't hosted by either parents this year so it was nice for me to start the traditional dinner at my house. I invited my parents to come to dinner. I even extended the invitation to my grandparents, but the declined the offer. Todd and I were very excited to use our china. We have only used them one other time.

I made the traditional Thanksgiving dinner of turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, yams, rolls, vegitables, and even celery with cheese spread.

After dinner we played boggle (game) and just enjoyed one anothers company. Thanks Mom and Dad for coming to dinner. We loved having you over. Todd even took a picture of my parent resting right after dinner, but I promised mom I wouldn't share the picture.

Throughout the year I often reflect on the things I am thankful for but would like at this time to share these thoughts.

14. Have you ever recycled a Christmas present? I don’t remember, usually we will recycle some of our white elephant gifts for games.

16. Clear or Colored lights on the tree? Lots of clear lights (don’t mind multi-colored)

Young Women in Excellence

The past couple of months Kierstie and Cozette have been working hard on one of their projects (for personal progress). For this years Young Women in Excellence the girls decided they would like to do a value fashion show. Each value has an assigned color.

Faith=White
I am a daughter of Heavenly Father, who loves me. I have faith in His eternal plan, which centers on Jesus Christ, my Savior.
Divine Nature-Blue
I have inherited divine qualities, which I will strive to develop.
Individual Worth=Red
I am of infinite worth with my own divine mission, which I will strive to fulfill.
Knowledge=Green
I will continually seek opportunities for learning and growth.
Choice and Accountability=Orange
I will choose good over evil and will accept responsibility for my decisions.
Good Works=Yellow
I will help others and build the kingdom through righteous service.
Intregity=Purple
I will have the moral courage to make my actions consistent with my knowledge of right and wrong.

During the value fashion show Cozette chose to wear and represent the color Blue, which is Divine Nature. Kierstie chose to wear and represent the color Green, which is Knowledge.

The next part of the fashion show the girls modeled dresses they had either re-designed or altered to be more modest. I will admit I was nervous of this project for a couple of reasons. I was nervous that something wouldn't go right and these beautiful dresses would be ruined, luckily the dresses were donated to the girls. My other reason for being nervous is that I don't sew alot (I learned when I was in jr high and high school, but never kept up) and was unsure of how to help the girls sew or rather alter the dresses to be both modest and to fit the girls.

I am very thankful and appreciative of the time Sister Lyman spent with each of my daughters. Both girls spent quite a few days at Sister Lymans house over the period of a month or so working on their dresses. Kierstie over 10 hours and Cozette about 24 hours. They both enjoyed this project and now both have a beautiful dress they can wear to one of their future dances when the time comes for dating.

Kierstie didn't need to alter her dress much. It has spaghetti straps so to make this beautiful navy blue dress modest, she picked out a beautiful blue contrast with sparkles to sew a jacket she could where over the dress.

Cozette had to alter her dress alot. First it was way to big. Seams were taken out of the dress, bust line was gathered, and seams and hemline sewn so that the dress would fit more to her size. With the extra material cut away from the dress, Cozette made beautiful shoulder cuff sleeves for the dress. The dress was beautifully altered, but Cozette also wanted to make a jacket to go with it for contrasting color. She chose a very nice red satin material as well as a black lace material and combined them both to create the jacket.

I have to share this picture too. Cozy is just to little to have two nice young men help her down the stairs so she won't trip and fall.

Both girls love to sew and I am very proud of the fine work they did. The dresses are beautiful and the night of the fashion show when I saw them it brought tears to my eyes to see just how beautiful they are. One day they will knock someones socks off. Todd and I have our work cut out to keep the boys away. LOL!

The night was beautiful and it was nice to reflect on the theme which was chosen. Hold fast to this thought. "I am a Daughter of God".

Young Womens Program...What a wonderful program!

I have two beautiful daughters in Young Women and sometimes it is hard to believe. Part of me doesn't like that they are growing up and then part of me is excited that I can talk and share with them these exciting years of their lives. I remember fondly my Young Women years and it has been so neat to share ideas and watch them work on their projects.

Our ward encourages the Young Women to work on the personal progress and complete the program before their sixteenth birthday. There are seven values and each project requires a minimum of ten hours.

Kierstie has taken this challenge to heart. She has two projects left and actually has challenged herself to finish well before her sixteenth birthday. Her goal is to finish before 12/31/08.

One of her two remaining projects is a nursery toy revamp. Kierstie and I decided what a fun way to do a toy revamp then to have a "toy shower" (like a baby shower, but for the nursery). We made invitations for all the sisters in the ward. The shower is scheduled for tonight December 3 6:30pm at our ward building. Last week, Kierstie organized an activity with the other girls to come out to the ward building to clean and dispose of broken nursery toys, books, etc. We made great progress in accessing the needs of the nursery and have been conveying that need with announcements among the different auxillaries. Lastnight Kierstie baked chocolate chip cookies to be shared as refreshments. Tonight we will host the shower with games, refreshments, etc. Probably tomorrow evening Kierstie and I will go through the nursery again and replace the older toys, books, etc with the gently used or new toys that are donated tonight.

Kierstie's last project, which she has already been working on, is making intregity quote books for each young woman within our ward. She made the book for herself and then decided it would be nice to share with the other girls, as well as help her with more hours in the integrity hours requirement.

I am very proud of Kierstie. She will have completed her goal to receive her YW Recognition before her fifteenth birthday which is December 19, 2008. She is sooo cute. She made the comment "what will I do once I have completed my personal progress"? I as well as her wonderful leaders have told her that she can then spend her time working with the other girls and then when sixteen sneaks up and keeps her busy, she will not have to stress about her goals in her life at that time. This will also give her the opportunity and time to help me work with Cozette on her personal projects.

This past weekend as a family we went and saw the movie "Twilight". Can I just say awesome! The movie was soooo good. The kids and I even think dear hubby like the movie. I totally recommend this movie. I just wish we didn't have to wait so long for it to come out on DVD and for New Moon. My first thought, when I saw who they picked to play Bella and Edward, was no that is not Bella and Edward, but they grew on me just fine and I enjoyed watching the book come to life.

I am finally getting around to posting halloween pictures. I worked this year on halloween so I didn't get a chance to go to the school parade. Kierstie and Cozette didn't have school (jr high was out for end of term) so they both went over to the elementary school and took a couple of pictures for me to post.

Our little family has a tradition that we enjoy every halloween. After everyone was dressed and ready to go in their costumes we went to Grandma Martin's (Todd's parents house) for homemade chili and hot apple cider. This is our highlight every year since started dating and married Todd. Growing up I enjoyed Hot Dog soup which was a tradition with my mom, but will admit I love chili so this is even better. I still love you mom! After enjoying chili and cider we go back home to let the kids trick-or-treat. The final stop of our night if it is not too late (which it wasn't again this year) is to head up to my parents house to say hi, let the kids get a treat from them, and show off our costumes.

Todd was only able to attend chili and cider at mom's. He got to babysit the church, keeping watch out for vandalism. We missed having you with us!

Kierstie earlier in the season for backward trick-or-treating with the YW/YM activity dressed in James football Jersey, but was unable to borrow it for halloween. Instead she dressed as BYU homecoming queen. I am glad she let us help her with a homemade costume instead of going to look for one.

Kaylynn was a little pirate girl (to cute to be a wench). This year she didn't go with us to either grandma's. She went trick-or-treating with a friend so I don't have a picture except school parade one.

Cameron for the school parade costume was great, but for trick-or-treating was even better (all hand created, I told him what to wear and Todd did his make-up). He was awesome.

Next year the kids want me to help them with homemade costumes. They would finally rather come up with some different ideas than just those at the store. They also loved all the compliments Cameron was receiving. It will be fun as I remember growing up and not very often purchasing costumes but being creative.

Very proud of Cameron

Cameron has been working really hard this year. In May Cameron turned eight and has been enjoying going to scouts. Cameron breezed through Bobcat very quickly and spent the summer working hard on the rest of his Wolf book.

Cameron has now earned his Wolf, I think three yellow beads, three belt loops, one gold point and six silver points. He has almost completed his Wolf book. I am very proud of him. I am pretty sure he will have his book completed before advancement to Bear in May.

Even though I am not wanting myself on the blog (picky with what pictures I post). I will post the pictures Todd took of Cameron before he pinned the Wolf pin on my shirt.

My girls love volleyball. At each one of Kierstie's volleyball games last year, Cozy would always ask, "can I please play with Kierstie and the girls?". This year Cozette was very excited. Now that she is in the YW program, she has been able to play volleyball with Kierstie and the other girls.

This year they won enough of their games that they were able to go on to Regionals. They only one a couple of those games.

Here are some pictures from volleyball. This was just a couple months back before Cozette got her hair cut. Her hair cut is very cute and frames her face alot better.

Now we get to wait for basketball season to begin!

Cameron's Final Tournament Game

Cameron finished his last game, of his eight week series, this past weekend November 8. Todd took Cameron to every game while I worked. I was able to attend the first tournament game last Saturday as well as this weekend. This last game was very exciting to watch. Cameron again made lots of great rebounds and bounce pass assists. There team finally won 6 to 5. The team took 5th Place (out of six team places). We are very proud of him and his team. He sure had lots of fun.

Cameron Basketball

Cameron enjoys playing outside with a basketball in hand. We have a standard and he will often play with his sisters and dad. Todd and I decided it was time to let him try his skills with a basketball team. He joined a little basketball team for 3-4 grade level with Taylorsville Rec Center. During the past eight weeks he has learned to develope his skills with other boys.

Cameron is one of the better rebounders on the team. He loves to assist and has great bounce passes to the other teammates. His goal in life is to be first a basketball player for the NBA. I guess this means I need to find more opportunities for him to play basketball like this eight week tournament he had with Taylorsville Rec Center. His second goal in life is to be a pilot. Not sure about that one. Perhaps his cousin Sean would be willing to help me out there then eventually he could be employed with Jetblue (the same wonderful airline his mom currently enjoys working for).

Twilight Series

I have now finished Eclipse, and it was great. Now I will begin Breaking Dawn. I am starting to get sad thinking that I will be done with this series in no time. I really wish Stephenie would start writing the fifth book again. The movie will be in theaters in just a little over a month from now...I still can't wait.

Twlight Series

I started Twilight about the end of August, but didn't really start reading it as fast as I would have thought. I think I really picked the book up and got started about two weeks ago and can I say I am hooked. I finished Twilight last Saturday. I saw my mom Wednesday bowling and begged to borrow the other three books because my daughter is still reading New Moon. I began reading New Moon and finished the last two chapters lastnight. I would have finished sooner, but I worked Friday and Saturday so I was unable to read during my time working. These books are really good and I am excited to now begin reading Eclipse. I am even more excited to see Twilight, which will be in theaters November 21.

Derby Days

Cameron and Todd both had alot of fun during the month of August preparing for the Cub Scout Pinewood Derby. When Todd was younger and participated in scouts he would always use his brothers cars to race in the pinewood derby. This year was extra special for Todd because he and Cameron together made both of their own cars. I have been working hard with Cameron, in completing alot of his requirements. So it was neat for the boys to work on the derby together.

Cameron won two of the heats and came in seventh place. He took First Place in workmanship for his car. Cameron named his car the Green Python.

Silly Fun

Todd and I are so greatful and blessed to have our children be such close siblings. They really get along great. I have been sorting through older photos and wanted to share just a couple of just how cleaver my kids are together.

The first one was taken at christmas time when the kids were smaller and the second one was this past christmas 2007.

New School Year

Hard to believe but summer is over and the kids are now back in school. The days, months, and years keep flying by so fast!

Kierstie is nineth grade and Cozette is in seventh grade. Both are attending Jr. High. They are both very excited to be back into school.

Kierstie is very excited because this year she is enrolled in Seminary. She has come home daily from school excited to share the stories Brother Taylor has been sharing with her class. She is also taking an honor class this year for Biology. She is still striving to achieve very good grades. Ideally she would like perfect citizenship and 4.0 gpa. Her classes are Spanish 2, Mixed Chorus, Algebra, World Geography, Seminary, Honor Biology, and English. Kierstie stayed after school Thursday and tried out for Show Choir. She enjoyed this last year and wanted to be involved again this year if given the opportunity. She will find out next week if selected.

Cozette was nervous for her first day of school. Because she is no longer in elementary school and has seven classes she is responsible for finding and attending. She kept telling me she was going to be lost and that this is going to be hard for her to do daily. So far she has come home every day this week excited that she is getting to know her teachers and making her way around the school without being lost. She is taking Utah Studies, Integrated Science, CTE (career, tech, and education), English 7, Cadet Orchestra, Math 7, and Art Foundations. She also stayed after school with Kierstie on Thursday and tried out for show choir. She was excited as well as Kierstie for her because she is natural at singing accapella as well as something they can do together. Kierstie sang Part of Your World from Little Mermaid. Cozette sang Castle on a Cloud from Les Miserables. Disney and Broadway. Definately their style...lol.

Kierstie and Cozette next week on Tuesday are going to try out for the play "Annie Get Your Gun". Cozette wants the lead. She thinks it would be awesome. They are both really excited and want to be a part of the play no matter if they obtain a lead or other role.

As soon as the opportunity arises, Cozette wants to try out for Volleyball. Kierstie will try out for Basketball. They are both going to have a busy and eventful school year.

Kaylynn this year is in the fourth grade and Cameron is in the third grade. They both are very excited for their teachers and have the opportunity to continue the friendships they have made in the previous years as well as make new friends this year.

We have truly been blessed in our home of over three years now. The kids are flurishing in their surroundings and with all they are learning. Todd and I have been and are still very proud of each of their accomplishments.

This year we were invited by my dad to get together with my side of the family and go to a dinner and games held from the Kawanis Club and then enjoy a Bees (SLC) Baseball game.

Kierstie asked James (a very nice boy within our ward) to go in Cozette's place and he accepted. Todd, myself, Kierstie, James, Kaylynn, and Cameron were all in attendance.

The BBQ was fruit, baked beans, chips, hamburgers, hotdogs, and cookies. It was yummy. After eating dinner we enjoyed some games that the Kawanis Club planned. Races with different age groups.

Kaylynn raced with kids age 9-11, and won the race. Cameron raced with the kids age 7 and 8.

Kierstie and I raced with the girls 12 and older. James raced with Todd and the men 12 and older as well. Kaylynn won the race as well as James.

James won the race but not by much...in case you are reading our Blog James...lol!

My kids know most about me pretty well. My favorite food is spaghetti. I am 5' 7" and 38 years old until November 8 (so I give Cameron half credit). I work for Jetblue as an Operations Reservations Supervisor (OPS). I think I need to talk to my children more about my childhood.

I also think all my friends and family should ask their children the same questions and post the responses to your blog sites!

Last weekend was fun. I woke the family at about six in the morning. We went to a park down the street from Alta High School for the 2nd Annual Balloon Festival.

This was a neat treat with the kids. It is not very often that you can see these balloons close up. We were able to walk right up to them if we wanted before the launched into the air.

After the balloon festival we went to Lowes and the kids made mini school lockers. Every 2nd and 4th Saturday the kids can make a project at Lowes. The kids can also go to Home Depot on the 1st Saturday of every month and make different projects as well.

After re-reading my post about girls camp. I realize I didn't tell everyone that we found out what the problem was with our van. It is my key. I guess the anti-theft micro-chip or battery inside my key is dead. Todd's key works great.

We all survived YW Girls Camp

One of my callings in church (which I love, actually I love all my callings) is YW Camp Director. I have always loved girls camp and it is a pleasure to be able to share this passion with my children now. Before moving to this neighborhood I have only served as YW Camp Assistant. The year we moved into the Taylorsville 39th Ward in 2006 I was called to go to YW Girls Camp as an assistant. Then last year and this year I have served as YW Camp Director. I would love to have this calling forever. I love to camp, the mountains, the young women, etc.

The past couple of months have been great getting ready for this trip. The theme was B.O.O.T (Building On Our Testimonies). Our ward was the 39th Platoon. We took about 253 pics at camp, but I will share just a handful.

Our mascott was tree frogs. I found pink camouflage with green frog material and we made pajama pants as well as green beanie hats. Her are some of the girls in the beanie hats and wearing the pj's.

The night before camp I was finishing last minute errands that I needed before packing. The last store was dollar tree (near our house) and the car would not start to go back home, with a message display of Starter Disabled. I lost it. Crying and was asking myself, why? The night before camp and what was I going to do. I called Todd to come over and try and help me. We ended up calling our nephew Mike (thanks so much) to help us tow the van back home (he is a tow driver for Cottonwood Towing, in case any of you would like to have him help you in the future). The message usually will display when something triggers the anti-theft. He thought maybe it would reset. Todd's mom let us trade cars (our Honda for her van) so I could at least get the girls and family up to girls camp. Thanks mom!!! The morning of camp Todd tried the car and it worked so we loaded up everything to head over to the church. When everything was loaded and I put the key in the ignition and again nothing. Ugh. So we unloaded everything from our van into mom's van instead. We decided it would be better this way and that we would deal with the van trouble upon our return from camp.

This year was special for me. Todd went as a priesthood representative, so thus my whole family was able to go to camp with me. Kierstie and Cozy are already in YW, but Kaylynn and Cameron came with as well. It was fun to have them with us. They got right in with the girls and were learning the camp songs. They participated in everything we did.

Cameron and Kaylynn helped Todd and I set up our tent. I love camp Timberlane. Alpine Fir is my favorite spot within Camp Timberlane.

Our first night we had dinner with the stake. This was a surprize for all of us because we didn't know what dinner was going to be. Each ward was to bring three dozen cookies for dessert. We paired up with a buddy (Kaylynn was my buddy). We walked thru the line for our dinner which was a M.R.E (Meal Ready to Eat). These kits are given to the military personnel every three days as their meals. You cook the meals yourself with everything in the kit. Our kit was spaghetti. It was fun to do, but definately made you humble and grateful for the food we enjoy everyday. I forgot to take my camera with me so I am unable to post pics. After cooking and eating our food, which was like eating from your 72 hour kit, we made homemade vanilla ice cream in zip lock bags. Yummy. Kaylynn and I did a great job making our ice cream. It was frozen just right for us to enjoy. Dad and Cameron's ice cream was a little on the milk/slushy side...lol.

This game was fun. Some would walk around while saying a phrase then stop in front of someone to dance silly. Each person doing the silly dance would switch places. Here are some of the pics.

Thursday activities were certification for all levels. In the afternoon we rotated between activites of lazer tag, an obstacle course (walking on beam, running thru tires, throwing airplane thru hula hoop, moving rubber ducky in rain gutter of water while blowing air thru a straw, swinging on rope over muddy water, hitting a tank with a water balloon grenade, crawling under a limbo stick, hopping on one foot back across beam), and water balloon toss thru hula hoop up high. Here are some of those highlights.

Thursday night was our skit. Camp Director's picked from a hat. Our skit was Hannah Montana characters in the Coast Guard. We love skits! Everyone participated. The girls even gave Kaylynn and Cameron a part.

Kierstie was Lily, Cozette was Hannah, Kaylynn was Sarah, and Cameron was Uncle Earl.

Friday we went on our hike.

That afternoon we made fleece blankets that the soldiers of unit 142 can give to the children of afghanistan. We also wrote letters to the soldiers.

Friday night was our last night at camp. Bishop Lesko came up for Stake Devotional. After that we returned to our ward camp and held our camp testimony meeting. It was a very spiritual conclusion to camp.

Pioneer Days

I worked my grave shift Wednesday night into Thursday morning (which was July 24), but didn't leave work till about 0800 due to helping with an IROP. Crazy weather and airline delays (cancellations). Once home I was not tired due to adrenaline from work, so I decided to work on my camp pj's. They are soooo cute.

July 24 is Pioneer Day. We celebrate our states birthday and the arrival of the pioneers into the Salt Lake valley.

As a family went went and saw Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D. It was a great show. Full of action and some intense moments. I recommend it, if you are interested.

I am grateful for the sacrifice of the early pioneers. Leaving there homes in Nauvoo and making their trek west. I know it was not easy. I know they lost loved ones along the way. Arriving into the Salt Lake valley and declaring "This is the place". Utah is my home and I love it here. I have been to many other cities, but none would feel like home to me as Utah and her majestic mountains.

I didn't have the camera with me at all yesterday. Mostly because we didn't really do much so nothing to capture for your viewing pleasure.

20th Anniversary of Yellowstone Fire

This year marks the 20th Anniversary to the fires that burned throughout Yellowstone National Park. Fires in Yellowstone are natures way of rejuvenating the park.

Did You Know?

The 1988 fires affected 793,880 acres or 36 percent of the park. Five fires burned into the park that year from adjacent public lands. The largest, the North Fork Fire, started from a discarded cigarette. It burned more than 410,000 acres.

I have always enjoyed going to Yellowstone, and had many frequent trips their with my family. Todd and I went with our friends Melodie and Jeff in July 1991 (not long after our February wedding). We decided it was time to return and take our kids for our family vacation. It was neat to share with our children this beautiful and wonderous park.

Yellowstone established in 1872, is America's first national park. Located in Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho, it is home to a large variety of wildlife including grizzly bears, wolves, bison, and elk. Preserved within Yellowstone National Park are Old Faithful and a collection of the world's most extraordinary geysers and hot springs, and the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone.

We enjoyed our camping trip June 23-June 27. Monday night we arrived to the enterance of Yellowstone about 11:30pm so we stayed at Stage Coach Inn. Tuesday morning we entered the park and after setting up our trailer and camp at Grant Village we started visiting all the sites within Yellowstone.

It was a fun and memorable trip with our kids. Everyone got along great. We camped with a grizzly and her cubs, but we were never able to see her. We saw plenty of bison, elk, and different species of birds, but no bears. After leaving Yellowstone we stopped at Yellowstone Bear World so the kids could see some bears.

JetBlue SSC held their annual party at Raging Waters. We decided to go again this year. It was fun this year except for the weather because Amanda works for JetBlue and went with us (Cory came later after getting home from Scout camp).

We woke Saturday June 7 for Cameron's baptism to cool temperatures. The day was cloudy with the high going to only reach 66 degrees. I can't believe we made the decision to still go to Raging Waters. We are nuts! I thought...lets go enjoy the DJ, drawings prizes, and games for the kids. If it is too cold then we will leave and go back to our house and play games or something. The day ended up being ok. True the water was cold, but that didn't stop the kids from having fun anyway. Raging waters was nice and gave everyone that attended a return pass to use at another time. JetBlue purchased the park that day for their employees.

Preparing for YW Girls Camp

Another year has flown by and now I am preparing for YW Girls Camp. I am the Camp Director (my second year). I love this calling and working with the YW of the Taylorsville 39th Ward. I am even more excited this year as I have two daughters in YW now. This year the whole family will be up at Fort Timberlane, Alpine Fir loop. Todd is going as a Priesthood Leader so Kaylynn and Cameron will be with him.

Our theme this year is B.O.O.T (Building On Our Testimonies). It has been alot of fun planning around this theme. We used a loom and made lime green beanie hats to go with our pink camo/frog pj's. After camp July 30-Aug 2 I will post more about what we did, etc. Most of camp is a surprise for the girls this year with the nature of our theme...lol.

Birthdays and Scouts

May is a very busy month for us and my side of the family. We celebrate lots of birthday's.

May 1 Gabe Claybaugh (my sister's son)

May 5 Cameron Martin (our son, turned eight this year)

May 8 Kristine Claybaugh (my sister)

May 17 Cory Johnson (my brother)

May 22 Teresa Larsen (my sister)

May 26 Colleen Johnson (my mom)

May 29 Cozette Martin (our daughter, turned twelve this year)

May 30 Kaylynn Martin (our daughter, turned nine this year)

May is christmas all over again, with parties and presents. Three of my four children all celebrate birthdays in May. I can't believe how big they are. I wish they would stay little.

Not sure where Cameron's birthday pics are, but here is the pic before his baptism. Cameron was baptized by his dad. We are very proud of his decision to be baptized. He loves primary and scouts. He is very excited that he is old enough to attend scouts.

Cameron has already earned his Bobcat and has been working on his Wolf requirements. He has so far completed on the Wolf Trail Achievement 1, 2, 3, 6, and 10. Now Cameron is working toward completing Achievement 4, 7, 8, 9, and 12. Hopefully soon after those he can begin and finish Achievement 5 and 11. Cameron is also working hard on his electives and so far has completed 37 of those. During the next Pack Meeting he will receive 5 beads, one gold point, and two silver points (maybe three silver points if we complete three more electives before then). Alright Cameron lets work on more scout stuff!

Cozy had a few friends over to party and eat cupcakes for her birthday. Here are some hightlights.

Kaylynn had a party with friends. They watched a movie and played some games, opened presents and ate princess cupcakes. After the party five of her best friends stayed the night. Here are some highlights.

Todd and I decided that Kaylynn should have a coach to make sure she learns the correct way to flip and tumble. With proper conditioning and training one is able to reduce the chance of injury. Kaylynn, as mentioned before, has taught herself I think all of the different tumbling tricks. We have placed her with Olympus Gymnastics. The coaches have been very impressed with her ability and everything she has taught herself. In just about three weeks now she has really refined her tricks and tumbling and has now been learning the bar and beam routines. The coaches also moved her from beginning placement of level 3 to Pre Team (which is the level before competition). In this level they refine and condition so they are ready for the challenge of competing. In these pictures Kaylynn is wearing all black leo and shorts.

Anyone that knows Kaylynn is aware that I can't keep her sitting still for very long. She loves to move, flip, roll, and move some more. She has taught herself in the past six months alot of tricks.

I love this pic because of her cute tongue as she is preparing for her arial (no hands cartwheel).

Snow Play

I know we are in the heat of summer, but because I have been behind on posting I have a few things to catch up on. Please indulge with me and enjoy some winter fun pics. Todd one day took the kids and their cousins Mekayla, Talia, and Canyen to a near by park while I was sleeping for some sledding fun (I work the grave shift so I was most likely sleeping).

New York

So I have been behind on posting (as everyone I know has noticed). I apologize with my only excuse being that I just haven't taken the time to update and post. I will try and get better at this.

My New York trip was amazing. I love to travel, but will admit that I was a little nervous because I had never been to New York and different people would tell me it is dirty and a very busy city. New York was a busy city, but I loved going there. My trip was mostly a business trip (supervisor training with Jetblue), but I was able to spend all of my first day in New York site seeing.

We saw almost all of New York City in one day and on foot with the exception of riding the subway. I learned the subway really fast. I was with some co-workers so this is why I keep saying we :)

While there I had the opportunity to go and see Wicked. Me and one of my co-workers purchased the last two seats available. WOW! I loved the play. It is one that you want to turn right back around and enter the theatre to watch again. I can't wait for this to come to Salt Lake in spring 2009.

New York was fun and I hope to go again, this time taking my family with me to show them "The Big Apple".

Christmas Thoughts 2007

We love Christmas. Christmas is a time for traditions and being with family. This year was no exception. On Christmas eve we have a family tradition of scripture reading of Christ's birth and before the kids hop in bed they open one present from mom and dad. The present they open is new pajamas. The kids love this as they have new pj's to wear to bed Christmas eve. For me they look great for Christmas morning pictures...lol.

Todd and I have always had luck with visiting extended family on Christmas. His family has the Christmas morning breakfast (rotated among mom and the daughters) and my parents would have Christmas dinner. This year was a little different. It was our turn to host Christmas breakfast. Todd and I started cooking about 6am bacon, sausage, funeral potatoes, eggs, and pancakes. Mom made sausage casserole. Linda brought over some pastries and bread. Sharon brought orange juice, and Delene brought me a beautiful white poinsettia (which is still alive in my bathroom next to our garden tub), I do have a bit of a green thumb with plants. We extended the invitation to my side of the family and Cory, Amanda and their son Niklaus came to breakfast.

I am very thankful for my family as well as Todd's family. We are blessed! I love that we all get along and enjoy one anothers company.

Kierstie's Birthday

Kierstie had her birthday and turned 14 on December 19. Her party was with her girlfriends. They had pizza, played games, and watched movies. Here are just pics of her and her friends during the pizza eating and opening some presents.
She received Bear from Kathy. Perfume and a shirt from Niki. Pajamas from Alexis. Slippers and socks from Jayme and Jodi.

My kids love to sing...

Cozette, Kaylynn, and Cameron all attend Arcadia Elementary. This year they have an after school program that the kids wanted to be a part of. On Monday and Thursday they are in Modern Dance. Wednesday they sing with choir.

Today was their performance for the school and parents so I was able to attend and take some pictures. I also took a small video stream of reindeer rap. I will upload this clip as well.

I wish I could have uploaded Kierstie's "Fruit Cake", but the video is too large to upload for the blog. Darn!

Holiday Concert...

Kierstie participates with concert choir as well as show choir at Bonneville Jr High School. Last night was their holiday concert. "Season of Love". It was a very nice concert. Todd and I enjoyed listening to the music performed from seventh, eighth, and nineth graders. Kierstie is in the eight grade this year and tried out for show choir. Kierstie enjoys singing. Our home is filling more and more with music with singing, piano, and violin. Music has always been a part of my life and I love seeing my children having the desire to enjoy it as well.

Traditions

One of our family traditions, during the holiday season, is getting together for the Baich family christmas party. The baich side of the family is my mom's side of the family. Which is her mom (Bernice), Dad (Dwain), and brother (Mike). We gather together and mingle while eating lots of salads and finger foods. We play bingo and are able to select a present from the pile when we get a bingo. Then play continues and upon our next bingo we can trade or keep our present. Once we reach black out we then can keep our final present selection. The presents are white elephant gifts (new this year with a price limit of $15). It is fun to play bingo and try to end up with the present we most desire.

Reflections

Cozette wanted as well as assigned to participate in the schools Reflection contest. This year the theme is "I can make a difference by...". Cozette chose that she can make a difference by helping to save wildlife. She drew a picture of a Raccoon in a tree with sad eyes. Her drawing was very well done. As most of you know, Cozy is taking after her father in becoming a little artist. I wish I had taken a picture of her drawing, however at this time her drawing is being judged with other schools from Granite School district.

Cozette received top award "Excellence" in drawing for the sixth grade. We are very proud of her. Here is the picture of her certificate and ribbon.

Johnson Thanksgiving

On Thanksgiving day after decking the halls, we went to my mom's (Johnson house) for Thanksgiving dinner. The cousins had a blast playing one with another.

We are truly thankful for our extended family and enjoy getting together. Next time I will need to capture more shots of everyone on both sides of our family.
